The Do’s & Don’ts of Mommy Makeover Surgery
Mommy makeover surgery, once considered somewhat rare, is now more in-demand than ever. Technological and medical innovations have made the idea of combining multiple plastic surgeries into one procedure quite safe (when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon). The comprehensive body contouring results that a mommy makeover can help provide are obviously incredibly appealing to many women seeking aesthetic rejuvenation. However, there are some essential things that mommy makeover patients should know to do and not to do before their procedure can take place.
Do wait until you are finished having children before pursuing a mommy makeover. Additional pregnancies after your surgery can offset the results achieved and create the need for additional cosmetic rejuvenation down the road. It’s also important to wait at least six months after giving birth to undergo a mommy makeover, as the body will need time to properly heal and stabilize afterwards.
Don’t assume that a mommy makeover is a one-size-fits-all situation. While they traditionally include liposuction, a tummy tuck, and a cosmetic breast procedure, this doesn’t mean that the surgery will always be performed the same way. Certain surgical techniques or methods may be available based on your situation, so it’s important to do your research and understand what a mommy makeover is capable of in advance of your surgery. This is something that will be determined during your consultation appointment.
Do ask about other procedures that can be included as part of your mommy makeover. Mommy makeovers are intended to be customized to the specific needs of each individual patient. If you have a specific area that you would like addressed, don’t hesitate to at least bring it up during your mommy makeover consultation.
Don’t get too stressed about your recovery. It’s true that undergoing a mommy makeover will require you to recover from multiple cosmetic procedures simultaneously, but this isn’t as physically demanding as it sounds. Just take it easy, follow your plastic surgeon’s recovery instructions closely, attend all of your appointments, communicate health information with your surgeon, and keep a positive mindset about your surgery and recovery.
