Breast Reconstruction Surgery
Performed by Dr. Elliott in Atlanta & Alpharetta GA
I just wanted to take a minute on behalf of my wife and me, to personally thank you for the reconstructive breast surgery you performed in 2012. You and your team, Patti, Michelle and Suzanne could not have treated us any better. We cannot adequately put into words the gratitude we feel towards all of you.
No one is ever prepared for a cancer diagnosis. But the information and the cooperation that you all provided was instrumental in helping us deal with the last 15 months. We have recommended you a thousand times since D’s surgery. That will continue as long as you are practicing. We are life long fans. You guys are the best. Thanks again! –B
Breast reconstruction surgery can restore a woman’s breast(s) after breast cancer removal surgery. Dr. Franklyn Elliott has been performing breast reconstruction surgery at his Atlanta and Alpharetta, GA practices for over 25 years and understands the importance of educating patients about their breast reconstruction options. Breast reconstruction surgery can be performed after mastectomy or lumpectomy to restore the appearance of the breasts.
Dr. Elliott uses various methods for breast reconstruction including implant and tissue flap techniques such as TRAM flap and latissimus dorsi flap. Breast reconstruction surgery can be done immediately following mastectomy or lumpectomy or at any time after breast cancer removal. Breast reconstruction is an emotional experience, and Dr. Elliott discusses concerns and questions with each patient to find the best technique to fit their unique needs and provide natural-looking results.
In some situations, fat transfer can enhance the patient’s breast reconstruction results by using excess fat from another area of the patient’s body to provide particularly natural-looking aesthetic results. In a full breast reconstruction, fat transfer can be used on its own or in conjunction with an implant, or in the case of correcting scarring from a lumpectomy, fat transfer alone may produce the desired results.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Am I a candidate for breast reconstruction surgery?
Many women are good candidates for breast reconstruction surgery after breast cancer removal. Although you may not be a candidate for all breast reconstruction surgery types, there are a variety of reconstructive options to meet your needs. During a consultation with Dr. Elliott, he will discuss which breast reconstruction technique can best fit your situation.
When can I have breast reconstruction surgery?
Breast reconstruction surgery can be done any time after breast cancer removal with approval from your oncologist. Some women choose to have breast reconstruction immediately after a mastectomy or lumpectomy while other women wait several months or even years.
What is a tissue expander?
A tissue expander is used to gently stretch the breast tissue to create room for breast implant insertion during breast reconstruction surgery.
What kind of scarring can I expect after breast reconstruction surgery?
Scarring will depend on the breast reconstruction technique utilized and incision placement. Scars can be vertical, horizontal, curved or straight and will be different depending on your medical needs and skin characteristics. Please view Dr. Elliott’s breast reconstruction photo gallery to see the types of scars associated with breast reconstruction surgery.
What are my options after undergoing a lumpectomy?
Some women may require some level of breast rejuvenation after a lumpectomy, but may not need full breast reconstruction. In these cases, I am able to perform a tissue rearrangement procedure to reconstruct the affected breast with the remaining tissue in the breast following their lumpectomy. This procedure only uses local breast tissue instead of breast implants or tissue from elsewhere on the body.
