Ask Dr. Elliott: Questions About Thigh Lift Surgery
Aging affects our entire bodies, but some areas may be more vulnerable to visible signs of age than others. Although they may not be as common of a concern among plastic surgery patients as the breasts or abdomen, the thighs are one such area. It’s common to experience stubborn, hard-to-lose fat and loose skin on the thighs as we age. This can also happen as a result of considerable weight fluctuation. These aesthetic imperfections can impact a person’s appearance, making their legs look heavier and older than many people would like. In these cases, I often recommend thigh lift surgery. For anyone still unsure of what this procedure is capable of, I have taken time to answer a few common questions about thigh lift surgery.
Question #1 What should I expect from a thigh lift consultation?
During pre-surgery consultations before thigh lift surgery, I take the time to have an in-depth discussion about their goals and expectations, as well as their medical history, to fully determine if they are a good candidate for this procedure. Additionally, since there are different types of thigh lift surgery, we will discuss all available options to make sure each patient receives the specific procedure variety that will be most helpful for them. This includes the location of the incision and what to expect after surgery.
Question #2: Can a thigh lift help me lose weight?
No. A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure and weight loss is not a result that prospective patients should count on. As a matter of fact, many patients use thigh lift surgery as a post-weight loss surgery to help remove loose, excess skin they experience after they have lost a significant amount of weight.
Question #3: How long will it take to see the final results of my thigh lift?
Every patient heals differently following surgery, however, it can take several months for the final results of a thigh lift to be seen. There will be post-surgical bruising and swelling, which will dissipate over time. Results will continue to improve more and more in the months following a thigh lift until the final results settle in.
Undergoing a thigh lift can be an excellent solution for patients who want to achieve trimmer, healthier-looking legs, as well as those who wish to put the finishing touches on their weight loss journey.
