Breast Augmentation with Round, Smooth Saline or Gel Implants: The Pros and Cons
In an article published in 2001, Dr. Franklyn Elliott discusses the pros and cons of breast augmentation with the different types of breast implants. While the procedure has a very high patient satisfaction rate, there are still rare and uncommon risks like capsular contracture (the muscle contracting around the implant, forming a hardened shell) and implant leakage. However, Dr. Elliott feels as though the current events and regulations by the FDA make it difficult for surgeons to make advances to prevent these types of complications. Nonetheless, cosmetic surgeons continue to improve the breast enhancement procedure to better suit patient needs and prevent complications.
