Breast Reconstruction Spotlight Patient: Nancy
I am proud to offer breast reconstruction procedures for women. Breast reconstruction surgery is used to help women rebuild breasts that have been affected by breast cancer surgeries like a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. While some women may be hesitant to pursue another procedure after breast cancer surgery, breast reconstruction can be an excellent way for women to turn the page following their cancer battle. To help fully illustrate the incredible difference that breast reconstruction can make for women, I wanted to present this spotlight patient testimonial from one of my former patients, Nancy.
Breast reconstruction can be performed in a number of different ways depending on the needs and preferences of each patient. After presenting Nancy with all of her options and discussing the unique advantages of each at length, we mutually agreed that the TRAM flap breast reconstruction method would be the most beneficial approach for her needs. Instead of utilizing a breast implant, TRAM flap surgery uses a “flap” of muscle, fat, or other tissue from the patient’s abdominal area and “re-routes” it to the chest in order to form a new breast.
Below, Nancy was kind enough to provide a firsthand account of her experience in her own words:
“I feel so fortunate to have found Dr. Elliott. I needed a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. Dr. Elliott explained all the options to me and shared the pros and cons of the breast implant and flap reconstruction alternatives. I was concerned about recovery time and potential complications from a TRAM, but Dr. Elliott shared his statistics and was very reassuring. He offered for me to speak with former patients as well. I had the TRAM flap and my experience was excellent. Two days in the hospital, back to work in 3 weeks. Very little pain and no issues with mobility. I experienced very few restrictions and a great result that will require no ongoing monitoring or surgeries. Thank you to Dr. Elliott and his caring staff for all their care and support!”
I want to thank Nancy for taking the time to leave me and my team with such wonderful feedback. I’m so happy to hear that she is doing well and couldn’t be happier with her breast reconstruction results.
