Preparing for Breast Augmentation: Where Should I Start?
Deciding that you are genuinely interested in undergoing breast augmentation surgery is a great first step towards achieving the new, rejuvenated breast contour that you desire. But what then? For many people, the most difficult part of the breast enhancement process is simply knowing where to start. This is where I can help. I have taken time to create this simple guide to help anyone interested in breast augmentation surgery get the process started.
Step #1: Consult With a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
This is true for all plastic surgery procedures, not just breast augmentation. This consultation appointment can provide the perfect opportunity to get better acquainted with your plastic surgeon while addressing anything more you want to know about your prospective surgery and procedure options. But preparation is crucial when it comes to getting the most out of your consultation and surgery. Put in the time to find an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon who not only has great examples of their work, but also who you feel comfortable with performing your procedure.
Step #2: Determine The Right Procedure Details For Your Needs
Once your needs and preferences are properly assessed, many choices will need to be made in order to provide the best-possible breast augmentation results. What material breast implants do you prefer? What specific breast size and shape are you interested in achieving? Will a breast lift be part of your enhancement procedure? Only after these questions (and more) have been answered can a procedure be done.
Step #3: Physically Prepare for Your Surgery
The weeks leading up to a breast augmentation surgery are critical to safely recovering from your surgery and maintaining great results over time. During this time, it’s essential to follow your plastic surgeon’s pre (and post) surgery instructions as closely as possible. This can include avoiding or adjusting your current medications (including aspirin), not smoking, and more. Additionally, arrange for transportation home after your surgery and for someone to be there for you for at least the first night. Some supplies like compression garments and medications may be needed during this time. Lastly, don’t forget to take the necessary time off of work (if need be).
My hope is that following these steps will help people interested in breast enhancement take a proactive approach to realizing the new breast contour they deserve.
