What Are My Plastic Surgery Options for Chin Enhancement?

Regardless of the way any specific feature looks, it’s important for many people to have a balanced appearance without any one specific feature standing out too much. And when striving for this symmetry, the chin is something that can be easy to overlook. However, enhancing the chin with plastic surgery can be an incredibly powerful aesthetic outcome. Today, I wanted to discuss some of the exciting options that I provide for patients interested in plastic surgery for the chin.

Chin Augmentation

The most commonly performed chin surgery, chin augmentation involves using an implant to give patients a more pronounced or “stronger” looking chin. During the procedure, I will make a small incision either inside the mouth or just underneath the chin and insert the implant. Chin augmentation surgery is very popular among people lacking volume in the chin area.

Chin Reduction

Conversely, chin reduction surgery is done to assist patients who think that their natural chin is too prominent or overprojected. The surgery works by making a small incision (typically underneath the chin) and carefully sculpting the bone and tissue in the area to meet the patient’s desired contour and shape. Like chin augmentation surgery, chin reduction can be performed simultaneously with rhinoplasty surgery to help create or maintain facial symmetry.

Liposuction of the Neck

For some people, their issues with their chins occur as a result of submental fat under the chin that creates the appearance of a double chin. In these cases, liposuction of the neck can be all that is needed. The result is a leaner and more sculpted chin and neck area.

Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation (Injectables)

While not technically surgery, I did think it was worth mentioning that I have had tremendous success helping some patients rejuvenate their chins with dermal facial filler injections. This non-surgical approach may be a good option for patients who wish for more modest chin enhancement with none of the downtime or additional costs associated with surgery.

Combining these two procedures can rejuvenate the face by reducing wrinkles, removing loose skin, addressing lax facial muscles, correcting droopy eyelids, and restoring volume where it has been lost.

Breast Reduction + Breast Lift

Undergoing a breast reduction and breast lift together can help women achieve a more modest, natural-looking, and perkier breast contour than they desire. In fact, it’s somewhat rare for women who undergo a breast reduction not to also have their new breasts lifted in order to ensure that their breasts are properly positioned following surgery. During this combined procedure, excess tissue is removed from the breast, and then the remaining breast tissue is surgically lifted to a more natural position for the patient’s body.

Chin Surgery + Rhinoplasty

The balance of a person’s facial features can be delicate, meaning that when one feature is altered with surgery, the face may require additional assistance to maintain balance and symmetry. This is why it is fairly common for patients to combine rhinoplasty with chin surgery, in order to achieve a more balanced, rejuvenated appearance.

While the combined surgery approach may not be right for every patient, there is no denying the immense benefits that it can provide in many cases.
