Ask Dr. Elliott: Common Breast Lift Questions

Dr.-Elliott-photoIf you have begun to notice sagging in your breasts, don’t feel bad. In fact, breast sagging is one of the most common aesthetic concerns for women. Although sagging is often associated with older women, the truth is that it can affect younger women too. Especially after they have experienced changes to their body associated with pregnancy or weight fluctuation. Thankfully, breast lift surgery is incredibly effective for treating breast sagging and providing perkier, younger-looking breasts that last. For more information on what a breast lift is capable of, I have answered a few common questions on the subject.

Question #1: Can a Breast Lift improve the shape of my breasts?

Yes it can. In addition to losing their firmness and positioning, breast sagging can also impact the shape of the breasts over time. Sagging breasts can sometimes appear flatter and longer, losing shapeliness as they begin to sag. During a breast lift, I make sure to reshape the lifted breast tissue to restore the patient’s breast shape.

Question #2: Can a Breast Lift correct downward facing nipples?

It can. It’s natural for the breast sagging and skin laxity to cause the nipples to face downward instead of straight ahead. Using a breast lift to remove this excess skin and reposition the breasts can help correct this issue and restore the nipple to a more normal placement.

Question #3: Will a Breast Lift reduce the size of my breasts?

Despite a common misconception, there is a difference between a breast lift and breast reduction surgery. While it’s true that the removal of stretched, excess skin that occurs during a breast lift will result in a modest decrease in breast size, this reduction is not comparable to the size reduction that occurs during a breast reduction.
