close-up-female-chinWhile it may not be as common as the facelift or eyelid surgery, chin surgery is another procedure that I receive a lot of inquiries about. The chin is a very prominent part of a person’s face, so it makes sense for people to want a chin they can feel proud of. To help my prospective patients achieve a more clear understanding of the possibilities that chin surgery can provide, I wanted to take some time to answer a few common questions about the procedure.

Will undergoing chin surgery affect the proportions of my facial features?

This is a concern that I take very seriously. After all, an improved chin doesn’t help a patient much if it negatively affects how they feel about the rest of their face. These are factors that we will discuss at length during the pre-surgery consultation. During surgery, I make sure that the chin remains in proportion with the other facial features. This is also why many patients choose to undergo chin surgery and rhinoplasty as a combination procedure.

Can chin surgery be used to address a double chin?

Yes. In fact, this is one of the more common applications for this procedure. An undersized chin can accentuate the appearance of excess fat under the chin that causes the appearance of a “double chin”. For patients who are looking to address this area, I recommend combining chin augmentation with liposuction of the chin to provide a more slender and attractive jawline.

Can chin surgery help me if I want my chin to be less prominent?

Absolutely. While many people hear chin surgery and immediately think of it as a remedy for a weak or undersized chin, the reality is that some patients are interested in reducing the prominence of their chin. I perform chin reduction surgery by making a small incision just under the chin. I am then able to carefully sculpt the chin to reduce its size and/or alter its shape.

How Can I Rejuvenate the Appearance of My Neck?

Although aging is a universal concern, no two people age exactly the same way. Additionally, certain areas of the body are more vulnerable to the effects of time than others. For many people, the accumulation of excess skin, fat deposits, and drooping muscles, as well as the appearance of wrinkles, can make the neck look prematurely old. This is why the neck is a common area of concern for many patients who are considering cosmetic surgery. I wanted to take a few moments to discuss popular options for neck rejuvenation.

Neck lift surgery is intended to help people who wish to improve the appearance of their neck area. The procedure typically involves surgically removing excess skin and repositioning the muscles in the neck area. The incision can be made around the ear or concealed in the lower hairline. Depending on my recommendation and the needs of a specific patient, I may perform a neck lift in a few different ways. For instance, in some cases I may use liposuction to remove excess submental fat from the neck to treat the appearance of a “double chin.” Some patients may require a tightening of the neck muscles that can help provide added definition and a more youthful profile.

However, some patients may benefit from other procedure alternatives.
