Facial Procedures to Consider
For many prospective plastic surgery patients, aesthetic improvement begins with the face. Because the face is the most visually prominent area on a person’s body, facial aging is simply more noticeable than signs of aging that appear elsewhere. When people think of plastic surgery as a way to rejuvenate the appearance of their face, a face lift is often the first thing that comes to mind. However, today patients have more options than ever to address different features of their face with specific cosmetic procedures, both surgical and non-surgical. Allow me to highlight a few of the less known cosmetic procedures for the face that I perform and the outstanding benefits they can provide.
Eyelid Surgery is actually more popular than face lift surgery. In fact, it is the most commonly-performed cosmetic surgery for the face among both male and female patients. Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) can help treat tired-looking eyes by removing excess skin and small pockets of fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids depending on the patient’s specific needs.
Ear surgery (also known as otoplasty) can provide a surgical solution for patients who wish to improve their appearance by altering the size, and/or position of their ears. Although I rarely recommend plastic surgery for children, ear surgery is an exception. Since most people’s ears reach their full size and shape at an early age, this procedure can be safely performed on children as young as five years of age.
Much like ear surgery, chin surgery can be used to help patients achieve a more symmetrical, balanced face. Chin surgery can be used to surgically reshape the chin, by either enhancing or reducing a person’s chin. During chin augmentation surgery, I am able to enhance the chin by making a small incision either inside the mouth or directly under the chin, repositioning the tissue, and inserting a synthetic chin implant. Conversely, chin reduction can be performed by making an incision inside the mouth or just under the chin and safely sculpting the bone and tissue to reduce the size and/or alter the shape of the chin depending on the patient’s aesthetic preferences and needs.
I also perform non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments including dermal fillers, Botox® Cosmetic injections, and fat transfer injections for the face. Fat transfer uses the patient’s own fat (removed with liposuction) to treat wrinkles, add back volume that has been lost over time to areas of the face including the lips, cheeks, and chin, and improve the quality of facial skin.
Having the freedom to choose between so many excellent options is a blessing, however, sometimes it can be difficult for patients to know which cosmetic procedure (or procedures) will be the best choice to help them achieve their specific aesthetic goals. This is why I take the time during plastic surgery consultations to discuss all the available options at length to help my patients make the most informed and beneficial decision possible regarding their surgical path.
