Questions to Ask During an Eyelid Surgery Consultation
Eyelid surgery is very, very popular for both male and female patients who want to treat tired looking eyes and refresh the appearance of their face. In order to get the most out of eyelid surgery, the first step for patients is the pre-surgery consultation appointment. This is where I take the time to speak at length with my patients about their respective procedure, address any specific questions or concerns they may have, and talk them through what they can reasonably expect during and following their surgery.
Despite its popularity, eyelid surgery may not be the right treatment option for every patient who experiences premature aging around their eyes. That’s why it is so important to take your consultation seriously. In order to help my patients be better prepared for their eyelid surgery consultations, I have put together a list of basic, essential questions that all patients should ask their plastic surgeons:
- Are you board-certified as a plastic surgeon?
- Do you have any other relevant certifications, accreditations, or memberships with plastic surgery associations?
- How many years of experience performing eyelift surgery do you have?
- How long will my eyelid surgery results last?
- What type of incision will be made during my eyelid surgery?
- Will my surgery be performed under general anesthesia or a local anesthetic?
- Will there be any visible scarring following my procedure?
- Can my eyelid surgery be combined with other procedures like a facelift or rhinoplasty?
- Do you have eyelid surgery before and after pictures from your previous patients?
- Are there any notable risks or complications associated with eyelid surgery?
- How much downtime for recovery should I expect following my eyelid surgery?
- What will my post-op care involve?
My hope is that prospective eyelid surgery patients can use these questions as a jumping off point during their pre-surgery research.
