Recovery After Breast Surgery: What You Need To Know
In the excitement around a cosmetic procedure, it’s normal for patients to forget that plastic surgery is a process. While we all wish that a patient could wake up from their procedure with their new, improved appearance, the truth is that it takes time for the final results of a cosmetic procedure to manifest. And the plastic surgery recovery period is absolutely critical when it comes to making sure the best-possible long-term results will be achieved. Today, I wanted to go into detail on what cosmetic breast surgery patients can expect during their recovery periods and why this time is so important.
For women who are interested in undergoing a cosmetic breast procedure like breast augmentation, a breast lift, or breast reduction surgery, this information should be very helpful. Once the procedure has concluded, the recovery period is the time when the results will begin to settle in and the body will heal and regain its strength. Some post-procedure soreness and swelling should be expected. These effects can linger for a few weeks following the procedure. However, as swelling slowly dissipates, the results of the procedure will begin to make themselves known. I typically advise between 2-3 weeks away from work and daily activities (including even light exercise), but this can vary depending on the individual person as well as each specific case.
The risk of scarring after breast surgery is another common recovery concern that should be acknowledged. In the video below, I discuss what patients can expect from recovery following breast surgery, as well as how much visible scarring they might experience:
It’s important to remember that although it can be a source of anxiety and frustration for some patients, the post-surgery recovery period is both avoidable and often much simpler than many patients think.
