Breast Lifts: Size Isn’t the Only Thing that Matters
When most people think of breast enhancement, the first thing that comes to mind is increasing the breast size. However, a woman’s ability to be comfortable with her breasts is far more complicated than cup sizes. For many women, disappointment in their breasts stems not only from breast size but sometimes from breast position as they see their breasts progressively sagging over time. Fortunately, a breast lift (mastopexy) with a highly qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Franklyn Elliott can restore the breasts to a more youthful shape.
What causes breasts to sag?
Most people realize that breasts tend to sag with age, simply due to the impact of gravity over the years. However, there are many other factors that can accelerate the sagging as well. For instance, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations all cause changes in breast size, which can contribute to a less youthful appearance. Heredity may also be to blame, as some women are simply genetically predisposed to losing breast height and elasticity sooner or more severely than others.
Who is a good candidate for breast lift surgery?
As with any elective surgery, there are several factors to account for when determining whether a breast lift is a good fit for you. Candidates should be overall healthy and plan to maintain a stable weight, as future weight fluctuations can have a negative impact on surgical results. Those who are unhappy with drooping breasts, those whose breast height is asymmetrical (one breast sits higher than the other), and those impacted by nipples that point downward may benefit from a breast lift.
What results can I expect to see from my breast lift?
While breast lift results vary from patient to patient, patients can ultimately expect to see breasts that sit higher on the chest for a more youthful appearance, as well as nipples that face forward and are more symmetrical in height. It is also important to note that the size of the breasts will not change after a breast lift procedure. However, for patients who would like to change both the positioning and the size of their breasts, a breast augmentation or breast reduction can often be combined with a breast lift.
Having breasts they’re confident with can help many women feel more satisfied with their overall appearance, and a breast lift is just one way to do so. I have worked with many women who aren’t quite sure what they dislike about their breasts – they just know they’re unhappy and aren’t sure what can be done to help. Whether this sounds like you or whether you have a very concrete idea of your goals for your breasts, the first step is to schedule a consultation with me, Dr. Franklyn Elliott. I welcome any questions or concerns you may have and always enjoy serving as a resource for new and existing patients during their plastic surgery journey.
