Since its inception over a century ago, the facelift has been helping individuals reverse the signs of facial aging. Originally, facelift surgery involved removal of an area of skin which was then covered up by nearby skin stretched to tighten the overall facial appearance.
Because each person is different, Dr. Franklyn Elliott tailors each surgical procedure to enhance your appearance whether you choose to incorporate a forehead lift or neck surgery along with your facelift surgery, Dr. Elliott can help you reach your cosmetic goals.
Facelift surgery has come a long way since the first procedure was performed in the early 1900s. However, even in the past few years there have been dramatic advances in the ways in which rhytidectomy surgery is performed. One such advance is newest innovations in plastic surgery technology the barbed suture. The Quill™ Knotless Suture helps surgeons create even skin closures by maintaining equal tension across the suturing area.
Another recent advance in facelift surgery is the use of endoscopic technology. Endoscopic techniques allow for more precision in the surgery process because of the use of smaller instruments and better visual aids for surgeons. During an endoscopic surgery tiny cameras are inserted into the tissue being manipulated and surgeons are able to watch the progress of the procedure. This type of facelift is less invasive than traditional facelift procedures and provides natural-looking plastic surgery results.
For those with less advanced signs of aging, a mini-facelift may be the answer. A smaller, less-invasive version of the full facelift, a mini-facelift works to refine isolate regions of the face such as the jaw line or cheeks that may have begun to droop as a result of gravity and age. With this procedure, incisions are shorter and therefore, recovery takes less time as well.
While techniques may vary from surgeon to surgeon, the overall principles of facelift surgery remain the same for all doctors. Incisions are made in front of and/or behind the ears to separate the facial tissue from underlying structures. Excess skin is removed and underlying tissues can be enhanced to help give the patient a more youthful appearance.
