Ask Dr. Franklyn Elliott: Better Understanding The Breast Lift
If you have recently noticed that your breasts are not as perky or firm as they once were, don’t feel bad. You are not alone in this. Breast sagging is one of the most common aesthetic concerns for women, and something that I treat very often with the help of breast lift surgery. Breast sagging can affect women of all ages and significantly impact how someone feels about their breast contour and overall appearance. Undergoing a breast lift can help by removing stretched skin and repositioning tissue in order to provide a better positioned, younger-looking breast contour. Today, I was happy to answer some common questions about breast lift surgery to help patients get a better understanding of what it can do.
Question #1: Can diet and exercise help reduce breast sagging?
Unfortunately, no. Because breast sagging typically results from loose, excess skin, losing weight and exercising will only be able to do so much to address this concern. It’s true that performing chest exercises can help build strength in the pectoral muscles, but this will not be able to successfully lift or reposition sagging breasts. Breast lift surgery is the only truly effective way to lift sagging breasts.
Question #2: Is there such a thing as a revision breast lift?
Much like breast revision surgery which is used to adjust the results of a previous breast augmentation surgery, a revision breast lift can be performed to help women who are either unsatisfied with the results of a previous breast lift procedure or for those who may have experienced more loose skin since their last procedure. This can be done to adjust the shape or positioning of the breasts, as well as breast asymmetry.
Question #3: Does a breast lift normally accompany breast implant removal surgery?
Some women who have undergone augmentation surgery may prefer to return to their original, natural breast size and breast implant removal makes this possible. It’s not mandatory, but in many cases, women who choose to have their breasts implants removed will typically have a breast lift in combination with this procedure. Undergoing a breast lift in this situation can help alleviate skin that has become stretched during the period where the breast implants were in place.
