Combatting Breast Issues After Weight Loss With Plastic Surgery
As you’ve probably noticed, new weight loss medications (like Semaglutide) have exploded in popularity over the past couple years. Previously used as a way to treat type 2 diabetes, these injectable medications have proven effective for patients who seek significant weight loss. However, one thing that has not been as big a part of the conversation about these medications is the other aesthetic effects that can occur as a result of losing this much weight in such a short amount of time. Today, I wanted to discuss the phenomenon that some people are calling “Ozempic breasts” and how plastic surgery can be of assistance for people who experience this issue.
For patients who are on these weight loss medications, it’s normal to shed fat from areas all over the face and body. Sometimes however, this can cause a loss of volume in areas that were not intended like the breasts. Breasts that have lost volume or been misshapen as a result of this rapid weight loss can be frustrating to someone experiencing this side effect. In addition to losing size, this can cause the breasts to appear empty or deflated and cause the nipples to face downward. These effects can also occur for women who have undergone weight loss surgery like a gastric bypass procedure and other weight loss in general.
As these medications and effects become more and more common, plastic surgery for breasts after weight loss does as well. For women who experience this issue, the following cosmetic breast procedures may serve as the solution that you are seeking:
- Breast augmentation surgery. During which, breast implants are inserted to create fuller and better-shaped breasts. Depending on the specific needs of each patient, the breast augmentation can restore the original, natural breast contour or enhance it even more.
- Breast lift surgery. For someone who only wishes to alter the shape or positioning of the breasts, breast lift surgery can be all that is needed. During the procedure, stretched or loose skin is removed and the remaining breast tissue is repositioned to provide a perkier and younger-looking breast contour.
- Fat transfer for the breasts. For women who only want to modestly increase the volume of their breasts, fat transfer injections can be very helpful. The process works by safely removing fat from a donor site on the body using liposuction. The fat is then purified and injected into the breasts to provide natural-looking volume and correct asymmetry issues that can occur after weight loss.
These cosmetic procedures can be an excellent way to put the finishing touches on your weight loss effort and maximize the impact of your new body contour.
