Making The Most of Your Liposuction Consultation Appointment

While some patients may consider their consultation a bit of a formality, this could not be further from the truth. A consultation before liposuction is essential to better understanding your surgery, different options and techniques, what results you can expect, and much more. Which is why I thought it would be helpful today to reinforce what patients can do to get the most out of their liposuction consultation appointments.

Like any other plastic surgery procedure, the liposuction process begins with finding a board-certified plastic surgeon with considerable experience performing liposuction to consult with and ultimately perform your procedure. Once this is done, it’s time to focus and prepare for the consultation appointment itself. While the conversation can be free-flowing and touch on many areas that patients may not have even thought of, having certain high priority questions prepared can be incredibly helpful. This ensures that nothing especially important will be left unanswered before the procedure has taken place. I would personally recommend making note of the following questions:

  • What steps should I take to prepare before my surgery?
  • Where will my liposuction surgery be performed?
  • Can I have liposuction performed on multiple areas of my body at once?
  • What should I expect from my post-liposuction recovery process?
  • When will I be able to see the final results of my liposuction and how long will they last?
  • How much post-surgery scarring will I experience after liposuction?
  • Will my liposuction procedure be performed under general anesthesia or other types of numbing?
  • Are there any potential risks and complications associated with my procedure that I should know about?
  • Do you offer plastic surgery financing or any other kind of payment assistance?

Breast Reconstruction: What Should I Expect From The Process?

Any kind of surgery comes with questions and some degree of uncertainty for the patient. Even in the cases of routine procedures that I know are very low risk, I often find myself needing to reassure my patients during their plastic surgery consultation appointments in my office. This is why I always take the time to thoroughly explain each procedure I perform, to both demystify the process and help the patient understand that they are in good hands when they enter my office and my operating room. Today, I wanted to discuss the details of breast reconstruction surgery and what patients can expect from this process.

For anyone unaware, breast reconstruction involves surgically restoring a breast (or breasts) following a breast cancer surgery like a mastectomy, removal of one or both breasts or lumpectomy, removal of a lump. Depending on each patient’s specific circumstance, the procedure can be performed together with the breast cancer surgery or at a later date referred to as delayed breast reconstruction. The process then depends on if the reconstruction will be done with a TRAM flap, using the patient’s own tissue, or with a breast implant and tissue expander. Both options can provide outstanding, long-lasting results. We will discuss all surgical options, expected post-surgery recovery time, and other factors to consider during the breast reconstruction consultation.
