Happy Holidays & Happy New Year From Dr. Franklyn Elliott

The holiday season is here once again, which means the end of the year is upon us. I always like to take this time of year to reflect on everything my staff and I have had to be grateful for over the last year in our office. And it means even more to me now, knowing that with my retirement just ahead of us, this was the last full year I will have had working with my team and wonderful patients. I can’t express how much it has meant to me to serve the metro Atlanta area for the last 40 years. So for one last time, I wanted to look back at the year that was and celebrate all we accomplished here in 2024.

As always, the best part of the year in the office was being able to meet so many new patients (as well as some familiar faces) and help guide them towards the aesthetic improvement that they desired. This year, it was especially gratifying to have the opportunity to meet so many younger plastic surgery patients and see the barriers that prevented many people from improving their self-confidence for so long continue to fall away. Health permitting, plastic surgery is for everyone and my staff and I were delighted to be able to help so many people, achieve their cosmetic goals.

I was proud to once again take part in the 39th annual Atlanta Breast Surgery Symposium this past January, an event that has come to mean so much to myself and my peers at Atlanta Plastic Surgery over the years. In my role of Symposium Program Co-Chair, it has been unbelievable to see how this event has continued to grow over the years and I can’t wait to see this continued growth in the years ahead.

I also had to say thank you to the incredibly kind people at Castle Connolly, as well as my fellow Atlanta area plastic surgeons, for awarding me as a Top Doctor in Atlanta in the field of plastic surgery once again. 2024 marked the 10th consecutive year that I received this honor, and over the 20th time total, and it meant more to me and my team this year than ever before.

The last year has been a fantastic experience and I want to thank everyone who helped make it so memorable. From my longtime team members Kris, Patti, and Suzanne to our incredible patients, you guys are the ones who make all of the hard work and effort worth it. I will miss being able to work with so many fantastic people, but look forward to everything else to come in the years ahead. Plastic Surgery for Patients Under Age 40

It’s well documented at this point that the world of plastic surgery is more inclusive than ever. In addition to more male plastic surgery patients than ever before, the industry has also seen a major influx from younger patients who are no longer hesitant to pursue plastic surgery. Regardless of the reason for this shift, my team and I have been extremely encouraged to meet so many younger patients in recent years and help them achieve their new aesthetic goals. Today, I wanted to discuss plastic surgery for patients under the age of 40, and how I work to tailor certain procedures to these age groups.

I wanted to begin by discussing the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures for younger patients, specifically focusing on people between the ages of 20 and 39. According to the Aesthetic Society, the 5 most popular cosmetic procedures for this age range are (in order) breast augmentation, liposuction, breast reduction surgery, rhinoplasty, and male breast reduction (gynecomastia surgery).

And while these trends may look similar to the larger society as a whole, there are subtle (but important) differences in how certain procedures can be performed on younger patients. In some cases, younger plastic surgery patients may look to cosmetic surgery as a form of preemptive maintenance. Put simply, procedures like liposuction can be performed to address small pockets of unwanted fat before they grow and become more of an issue as the years go on.

Plastic Surgery for Men: How To Prepare For Your Consult

man-with-glasses-smilingHere in my office, I have noticed an undeniable trend in recent years that more men than ever before are coming in to discuss plastic surgery and how it can help them improve their appearance and self-esteem. Male plastic surgery is absolutely on the rise, which has led to many questions from patients pertaining to cosmetic procedures for men. One of the many ways that plastic surgery for men is the same as plastic surgery for women is the importance of preparation and the pre-surgery consultation appointment.

In my experience, men seek out plastic surgery hoping to achieve subtle, natural-looking plastic surgery results that can help them look and feel younger. How this is achieved will depend on the specifics of each patient and surgery, but one thing that remains constant is the importance of making the most of your plastic surgery consultation appointment. Every person will have their own priorities, goals, concerns, and questions to address during their consultation, but I have found in the past that providing a simple template of starter questions like the ones below can often be very helpful to patients early on in the process:

  • Are you board-certified as a plastic surgeon?
  • Do you have much experience performing plastic surgery on male patients?
  • Which procedures do you perform most commonly on men?
  • Do you have any specific procedures or surgical techniques that are used during procedures on male patients?
  • Do you have any before-and-after photos from other male patients who have undergone my procedure?
  • How subtle will my final results be?
  • Will I be able to discreetly conceal post-surgery scarring and other post-surgical effects?
  • Can I use plastic surgery financing to help pay for surgery?

It means a lot to me to see so many more men seeking out plastic surgery today than ever before.
