Top 3 Cosmetic Surgery Questions Answered by Dr. Franklyn Elliott
The duties of a cosmetic surgeon go far beyond just performing surgical procedures. As a double board-certified plastic surgeon with over 35 years of experience performing cosmetic procedures, I firmly believe patient education is one of the most important parts of my job. It’s also one of the most enjoyable parts. That’s why I’m always willing to answer questions I receive from patients about cosmetic surgery procedures I perform. This week I’m answering questions about three of my most in-demand cosmetic surgeries: rhinoplasty, arm lifts, & tummy tucks.
Question #1: Can rhinoplasty provide benefits other than altering the size of my nose?
Absolutely. Although it is commonly-known as a way to alter the shape and size of a patient’s nose to create a more symmetrical facial contour, rhinoplasty (or nose surgery) can provide benefits for a wide variety of nasal issues. Rhinoplasty can help patients smooth out visible humps or depressions on the bridge of the nose, as well as provide an improved contour for nostrils that are that are too large, wide or asymmetrical. For certain patients, rhinoplasty can also provide medical benefits including treating a deviated septum and other breathing issues.
Question #2: How long do the results of an arm lift typically last?
Results can vary from patient to patient, but the results of an arm lift can often last for many years. Aging may lead to some natural skin laxity in the arms over time, though it will be far less significant than what you experienced before your procedure. Other factors like significant weight fluctuation or pregnancy after your arm lift can negatively affect your results as well.
Question #3: Can a tummy tuck be used to get rid of stretch marks?
Body contouring procedures like tummy tucks that involve the removal of skin can help reduce stretch marks, but it depends where on the body your stretch marks appear. A tummy tuck can help eliminate stretch marks below the belly button. Excess hanging skin and stretch marks on your hips or thighs can potentially be treated with an additional procedure like thigh lift surgery.
The more a patient knows and understands about their cosmetic surgery options, the better prepared they will be to find the procedure to help them achieve the rejuvenated new look they desire.
