Ask Dr. Elliott: Common Questions About Eyelid Surgery
Considering how small they are, our eyes can have a big impact on the way we look. That’s why so many people prioritize the eyes when contemplating cosmetic surgery. Eyelid surgery is hugely popular with both men and women who wish to refresh the appearance of their face and eyes. To help illuminate this outstanding cosmetic procedure and the benefits that it can provide, I wanted to answer some questions that I often receive from prospective eyelid surgery patients.
Question #1: What aesthetic issues can Eyelid Surgery treat?
Eyelid surgery is a versatile procedure that can help patients improve several common imperfections that occur around the eyes. These include loose skin around the eyes that create folds, fatty deposits on the eyelids, drooping upper and lower eyelids, bags under the eyes, and wrinkles around the eyes.
Question #2: How long will the results of Eyelid Surgery last?
When the procedure is performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, eyelid surgery can help provide fantastic, long-lasting results. While some degree of facial aging is normal in the years following surgery, eyelid surgery results are designed to last.
Question #3: How much visible scarring will there be after Eyelid Surgery?
Visible scarring is a common concern among plastic surgery patients, especially before facial procedures. Although the incision area depends on whether the patient undergoes surgery on their upper or lower eyelids (or both), in either case I do my best to hide incisions within the natural folds and creases around the eye. Any visible scarring is typically very discreet and will fade with time. During lower eyelid surgery, I am able to make the incision on the inside of the eyelid to prevent any visible scarring.
I understand that no two faces age exactly the same. However, I have seen firsthand how eyelid surgery can help men and women of all ages rejuvenate their look and achieve a fresher, younger-looking appearance.
