I first had a double mastectomy in May of 2020 with Dr. Elliott performing reconstructive surgery with a TRAM flap. I was very pleased with the results of my surgery then. I underwent a prophylactic double mastectomy with Dr. Elliott. It has now been three months since my surgery and the results are outstanding. The shape of my breasts are exactly what I wanted. I also underwent a mini tummy tuck as part of the TRAM flap removal, and those results are fantastic. My stomach looks better than even before I had kids. Ask Dr. Elliott: Facial Rejuvenation with Cosmetic Surgery

Dr. Franklyn ElliottOver my decades of performing cosmetic surgery procedures, I have noticed a significant difference in the way many patients approach plastic surgery for the face. Due to advancements in medical technology and surgical techniques like my signature short scar facelift, the fear of making a patient look “overdone” after facial rejuvenation surgery are largely a thing of the past. With so many procedure options available today, I understand that it can be easy for some patients to become overwhelmed when choosing the right surgery and surgeon for their needs. This is why I have taken some time to answer common questions about facial plastic surgeries that I perform.

Question #1: Will undergoing rhinoplasty affect my sense of smell?

Although there are some rare risks and complications associated with rhinoplasty surgery, long-term loss of senses like smell and taste are not among them. Although some temporary post-surgery swelling may impact these senses in the weeks immediately following the procedure, these effects will dissipate as swelling does. In some cases, a patient’s senses may actually improve the following rhinoplasty due to breathing obstructions like a deviated septum being corrected.

Question #2: Should I have my upper and lower eyelid surgeries performed simultaneously or separately?

In my experience, it is most beneficial to have both eyelids performed during the same surgery session. Doing so can help the patient achieve the results they desire while cutting down on overall surgical costs (including hospital fees) and downtime needed for recovery. However, it’s important to consult with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to determine if you are a good candidate, as well as the best surgical approach.

Question #3: How long will it take for the final results of facial fat transfer to settle?

Typically speaking, the most noticeable post-surgical aesthetic effects should settle within 3-6 weeks of the fat transfer procedure’s completion. However, every patient is different and this can vary. From that point on, there will be gradual improvements that can last for up to six months. However, you may need additional sessions to achieve the best results.

Regardless of the facial procedure(s) that you are interested in pursuing, the most important thing to do when planning for a cosmetic procedure is to select an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to perform your surgery. Plastic Surgery For Men Is More Common Than Ever

It’s been incredibly encouraging to assist so many male plastic surgery patients in recent years. However, one thing that I have noticed when speaking to male patients in my office is the idea of “male plastic surgery” as a catch-all term. The reality is that plastic surgery for men can take many forms based on the unique needs and aesthetic preferences of each individual. This is why I wanted to specifically discuss a few of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures for men.

Eyelid surgery is consistently very in-demand with male patients. During the surgery, I am able to surgically remove loose, baggy skin and small deposits of fat (if necessary) from one or both eyelids. The result is a younger-looking, more refreshed appearance. Excess fat around the waist is another very common aesthetic concern for men. In these cases, I often utilize liposuction surgery to remove patches of fat that may not be able to be addressed with diet and exercise alone. Male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia is also very popular among male patients. This procedure helps guys who experience male breast enlargement achieve a flatter and more masculine chest contour.
