True & False: The Short Scar Facelift
Everyone likes having options. Plastic surgery patients are no exception. That’s why I pride myself on being able to perform cosmetic procedures in different ways in order to benefit patients with specific needs and desires. One such technique that I am particularly proud of is my signature short scar facelift. This outstanding procedure is intended to help my patients rejuvenate their face and achieve a more youthful, refreshed appearance. To help explain what this procedure is capable of, I have noted a few true and false statements about the short scar facelift.
It is true that the short scar facelift is designed to address the lower portion of the face. This includes improving the appearance of the nasolabial folds, the jowls, and the jawline. Additionally, a short scar facelift can help smooth loose skin around the neck to provide a natural lifting effect.
It is false that the short scar facelift is synonymous with a mini facelift. The term “mini facelift” has become increasingly popular in recent years, but it’s important for patients to realize that there is no standardized mini facelift. A mini facelift describes any time when a plastic surgeon adjusts a traditional facelift to make the procedure less invasive in order to reduce downtime or visible scarring after surgery. In fact, a short scar facelift is a specific type of mini facelift.
It is true that recovery following a short scar facelift is typically fairly simple for patients. Since the procedure is minimally-invasive and uses local anesthetic and Quill™ knotless sutures, relatively little downtime is needed after surgery. It’s common for patients to return to normal activities like work in just two weeks or less depending on the type of work performed. However, it’s important to remember that this may vary from patient-to-patient.
With so many procedure options available, it’s understandable why some patients may not be sure which plastic surgery option is best for them. This is why the pre-surgery consultation is so important for patients to fully understand their options and address any additional questions, concerns, or curiosities they may have about their surgery.
