How Safe are Facial Fat Transfer Injections?
One of the most exciting advancements in the world of cosmetic surgery over the last several years has been the arrival and prevalence of fat transfer injections. As opposed to other cosmetic injectable treatments like Botox® or facial fillers, fat transfer injections use fat that is removed with liposuction to reintroduce volume to areas on the face (and body) including the cheeks and lips. I typically hear from patients who are interested in this procedure, but unsure that a seemingly unorthodox treatment like this would be safe to undergo. That’s why I wanted to explain why fat transfer injections for the face are indeed very safe.
The key to safe and effective fat transfer injections is working with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience performing this procedure. The fat that is used during fat transfer is carefully removed from an area of the body like the abdomen using liposuction. It is then purified to further ensure the patient’s safety during the injection process. Since fat transfer injections exclusively use the patient’s own organic material, there is minimal to no risk to an adverse effect or reaction to the injection.
In the following video, I discuss fat transfer injections for the face and the many benefits that they are able to provide:
