Male Breast Reduction Surgery: The Proof is in the Results
Although the majority of breast surgery patients I see are female, many males also seek breast surgery in the form of breast reduction. Male breast reduction surgery to address gynecomastia is increasing in popularity, with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reporting nearly 23,000 cases in 2013 alone.
The overdevelopment of male breast tissue is referred to medically as gynecomastia, which can occur in men of any age for a variety of reasons. Hormonal changes, genetics, and even the use of certain prescription medications can contribute to the growth of excess tissue. When working with a patient who is experiencing these issues, I use liposuction to eliminate excess fat while surgically removing excess glandular tissue to create a smoother, more masculine chest.
I often witness a sense of self-consciousness of appearance and emotional distress from gynecomastia patients. Because of excess skin from dramatic weight loss or excessive glandular tissue, their chests can appear more feminine. Recently, a patient came in with these same concerns over their appearance. Read one patient’s testimonial to discover how breast reduction worked for him.
“I can’t thank Atlanta Plastic Surgery and Dr. Elliott enough! I had gynecomastia surgery in June 2014 and the results are unbelievable. With a crazy work schedule it was hard for me to lock down a specific date for surgery. The office was very flexible scheduling a date for my procedure and I can’t thank them enough for that. Overall the results are incredible and the whole process was very easy. I would recommend anyone to use Dr. Elliott at Atlanta Plastic Surgery for any of their cosmetic surgery needs.”
