In a society where there’s sometimes a misconception that women are the only patients who seek the help of a surgeon to restore their physical image, I know this to simply not be the case. In fact, as a board-certified plastic surgeon working with men and women of all ages over the past 25 years, I see more and more men coming into my office to talk about their cosmetic surgery options. And why shouldn’t they want to reap the benefits of turning back the hands of time too?

Male Breast Reduction Surgery: The Proof is in the Results

Although the majority of breast surgery patients I see are female, many males also seek breast surgery in the form of breast reduction. Hormonal changes, genetics, and even the use of certain prescription medications can contribute to the growth of excess tissue. When working with a patient who is experiencing these issues, I use liposuction to eliminate excess fat while surgically removing excess glandular tissue to create a smoother, more masculine chest.

I often witness a sense of self-consciousness of appearance and emotional distress from gynecomastia patients. Cosmetic Procedures Become More Common Among Men

Although men have always had plastic surgery performed, it seemed few and far between. However, today more men are seeking cosmetic procedures to address aging concerns. According to the latest reports from The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), men accounted for 1.2 million cosmetic procedures in 2011. The top plastic surgery procedures for males include rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, liposuction, breast reduction, and facelift surgery.
