Recent Plastic Surgery Trends That I’ve Noticed
Like any other medical field, the world of plastic surgery changes a little bit every year. In addition to taking note of new procedures and surgical techniques being introduced, it’s important for board-certified plastic surgeons like myself to be aware of current trends in our field. Understanding and acknowledging what is “in” right now is critical in helping me gain a better idea of the aesthetic goals my patients are attempting to achieve with their respective cosmetic procedure(s). With that said, I wanted to take some time to note a few of the prevailing cosmetic surgery trends that I have recently noticed among my patients.
Focus on the Eyes
For many years now, the eyes have been a focal point for patients who wish to achieve a younger-looking facial appearance. However, now more than ever, my patients seem interested in a comprehensive approach to refresh this area of their face. A popular method for this involves combining eyelid surgery with a non-surgical injectable treatment like Botox® Cosmetic or a dermal facial filler to achieve even more comprehensive and natural-looking rejuvenation.
A Preference for Smaller Breasts
Many people seem to prefer a more “natural” look at the moment, but what exactly does that mean? In the case of breast enhancement, it means a preference towards smaller, more modest breasts. I am able to help my prospective patients achieve this by using smaller breast implants during breast augmentation procedures, utilizing fat transfer injections to the breast instead of implants, or performing breast reduction surgery for women who wish to reduce the size of their natural breasts.
Body Contouring for Men
We’ve all heard of the Mommy Makeover, but some in the plastic surgery field has begun using the phrase “Daddy Do-Over” when discussing the increasing demand for body contouring procedures among male patients. In addition to male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia, more guys than ever continue to seek out cosmetic procedures like liposuction to better sculpt their physique.
It’s always so fascinating to see new trends emerge in the field of plastic surgery. Knowledge and awareness of societal trends are important tools that I use to make sure every patient that I see understands their full selection of options when planning their cosmetic procedure.
