What Are The Most Popular Facial Cosmetic Surgery Procedures?
In honor of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently publishing their annual statistical report for last year, I wanted to take a moment to dig into their findings. More specifically, I wanted to focus on plastic surgery for the face and to get a better idea of how people across the country are using cosmetic procedures to rejuvenate their appearance. For anyone unaware, the ASPS annual report is an in-depth statistical analysis designed to help present a clear picture of the state of the plastic surgery industry. Below I document their findings pertaining to the most common plastic surgery procedures for the face.
Rhinoplasty
- According to ASPS, rhinoplasty surgery to reshape the nose was the most common facial plastic surgery procedure (as well as the most common plastic surgery overall).
- Over 350,000 rhinoplasty procedures were recorded last year.
- Despite COVID-19, the number of rhinoplasty procedures dipped just 3% compared to 2019.
Eyelid Surgery
- Eyelid surgery was the second most in-demand facial plastic surgery procedure, accounting for over 325,000 surgeries.
- Eyelid surgery was among the top-3 most popular cosmetic procedures for male and female patients.
Facelift Surgery
- Facelift was the third most commonly performed facial procedure in 2020, accounting for over 234,000 surgeries.
- The gap between the number of facelifts performed when compared to rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery procedures expanded last year, emphasizing the increased popularity of the other two procedures.
Other Facial Procedures
- Additional facial procedures of note included ear surgery (over 53,000), chin surgery and (over 43,000).
- Non-surgical facial rejuvenation including Botox® injections (over 4,000,000 treatments) and facial filler injections (over 3,400,000) continue to be extremely in-demand.
I hope patients interested in undergoing a facial procedure found these statistics interesting and helpful. The world of cosmetic surgery changes fast, so it can be helpful for me to know what my patients preferences may be in order to help deliver the most satisfying long-term plastic surgery results.
