Questions to Ask Your Plastic Surgeon Before Chin Surgery
Fear of a “weak” looking or receding chin is a common aesthetic concern for many men. Additionally, some people are equally concerned that their chin may appear too prominently and overshadow their other facial features. Thankfully, chin surgery is designed specifically to address either of these concerns. Both chin enhancement and chin reduction surgery can help patients restore balance to their face by altering the size and shape of the chin.
Like any other cosmetic procedure, the path to rejuvenating your chin begins with a one-on-one consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During your consultation, you will have the chance to learn more about chin surgery to help determine if it is indeed the best path to help you address your aesthetic needs. To get the most out of your consultation, it’s important to be proactive and prepare ahead of time. This means bringing up any pressing questions or concerns you may have about your procedure and the results that you can expect. Although every patient is different, I would recommend for anyone to ask the following questions during their chin surgery consultation before making any final decisions.
- Are you board-certified as a plastic surgeon?
- Do you have any other certifications or are you a member of any other plastic surgery societies or organizations?
- How long have you been performing chin surgery?
- Do you have before-and-after chin surgery photos from past procedures you have performed?
- How long will it take until I see the final results from my chin surgery?
- Will my procedure require a hospital stay? And if so, at which hospitals do you have hospital privileges?
- What type of chin implant makes the most sense for my aesthetic concerns?
- How much time will I need to fully recover after chin surgery?
- Will I experience visible scarring after my chin surgery?
- Does it make sense to pair my chin surgery with rhinoplasty or any other cosmetic procedure?
- Would you recommend any non-surgical alternatives to chin surgery?
- What kind of anesthesia will be used during my procedure?
- How should I physically prepare in the weeks leading up to my chin surgery?
- What are the potential risks of undergoing chin surgery?
Although every person will have their own unique concerns and curiosities that they will want to address, hopefully these questions can serve as a baseline during any prospective chin surgery consultation. During all chin surgery consultations, I take time to evaluate the patient’s face and discuss their personal cosmetic goals to help guide them towards the most beneficial surgical path possible.
