Can Breast Implants Help Treat Sagging Breasts?
For some people, “breast enhancement” has become a catch-all term for cosmetic breast surgery. Cosmetic breast surgery can be an excellent way for women who are not satisfied with the size, shape, or appearance of their breasts to achieve the silhouette that they desire. However, it’s important for prospective patients to understand that there are different cosmetic breast procedures that can help alter the breasts in fundamentally different ways.
Breast sagging is a very common concern for women. I speak with patients all the time who seek cosmetic surgery as a way to remedy breast sagging and achieve perkier, younger-looking breasts. During breast augmentation consultations, the subject of breast sagging is often brought up. And while breast augmentation with breast implants can help many women by altering the size and shape of the breasts, this procedure alone is not meant to alleviate breast sagging.
To truly address breast sagging, a breast lift procedure is typically required. During a breast lift, excess skin and tissue is removed from the breast area and the remaining breast tissue is repositioned. While it’s true that many women choose to combine a breast lift procedure with breast augmentation to achieve even more comprehensive results, breast implants alone will not be able to treat breast sagging.
