The ABC’s of Finding The Right Plastic Surgeon for You
Finding the right plastic surgeon for your needs is no simple task, but it doesn’t have to be a major headache either. Every patient is unique and will ultimately have their own preferences for their cosmetic surgery process. However, some things are universal when determining the right doctor to perform any plastic surgery procedure. In order to help my readers make the best and most informed decision possible when choosing a plastic surgeon, I thought the following ABC guidelines would be valuable.
Aesthetic Taste That Aligns With Your Own
Aesthetic preferences are obviously incredibly subjective, but it’s the kind of thing that patients know when they see. A plastic surgeon may have incredible credentials and considerable experience performing your specific cosmetic procedure, but that doesn’t mean that he or she is automatically a good match with what you hope to achieve. I always recommend asking to see plastic surgery before and after photos and fully discussing the potential results from your surgery in order to gain a better idea if this surgeon will be able to provide the results that you desire, without having to settle for their vision over yours.
Board-Certification as a Plastic Surgeon
Board-certification is something that simply cannot be ignored during your search. In recent years, there has been a wave of so-called professionals who refer to themselves as “cosmetic surgeons” performing various procedures on patients. However, in the interest of safety and achieving the best and longest-lasting results from any cosmetic procedure, it’s essential to find someone who is board-certified as a plastic surgeon. Specifically, they should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Membership in other leading plastic surgery organizations like the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) or the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) can also be things to look out for.
Comfort, Confidence & Communication Throughout the Process
All three of these C’s are incredibly important and worth mentioning here. The right plastic surgeon for you is someone who can talk you through every aspect of your procedure (including preparation and recovery), and make you feel at ease, informed, and respected every step of the way. If your plastic surgeon doesn’t inspire these feelings, it’s time to find someone who will.
I hope this will help more people understand what to keep in mind when deciding on a plastic surgeon to perform their procedure. Doing the research and making sure that you’ve found the right person is absolutely something that will pay major dividends, both now, and years down the line.
