What Are My Options To Get Rid of a Tummy Pooch?
Body contouring surgery takes many forms. This is true in respect to how many different plastic surgery procedures are available to help patients improve the tone and contours of their body. But in some cases, it’s also true of the specific procedures themselves. Tummy tuck surgery is one of the body contouring procedures that I may perform differently based on the specific needs of each individual patient. Today, I thought it would be instructive for me to discuss the different tummy tuck surgery techniques that I offer for people interested in this procedure.
Full Tummy Tuck
The most common form of the tummy tuck, a full tummy tuck (or traditional tummy tuck) can be incredibly helpful for patients who wish to achieve aesthetic rejuvenation in areas both above and below the navel.
Benefits include:
- Removal of loose skin, tissue, and fat (in some cases).
- Repairing loosened or separated muscles in the abdomen that can form the appearance of a “tummy pooch”.
Mini Tummy Tuck
I also perform mini tummy tuck procedures that may be better suited to patients who need or are interested in less extensive body contouring. Unlike a full tummy tuck, the mini tummy tuck is specifically intended to address the area below the navel.
Benefits include:
- Effective tightening in the area of the abdomen between the belly button and pubic area (below the belly button).
- Smaller incision during surgery, meaning less post-surgery scarring and a shorter recovery time.
Extended Tummy Tuck
The most comprehensive version of the procedure, the extended tummy tuck utilizes a wider horizontal incision to help patients who wish to have skin and tissue removed from a wider area of their body. This technique can be especially helpful after considerable weight loss.
Benefits include:
- The ability to address a wider circumference of the abdominal area including the flanks (or love handles).
- Repositioning the navel to a higher and more natural position to provide a more balanced abdominal appearance after surgery.
- Treating damaged or separated abdominal muscles also referred to as a “tummy pooch.”
Being able to provide my patients with multiple procedure options to better fit their specific needs is a big reason why I’ve been named a Top Doctor in Atlanta for over 20 years, an honor that I do not take lightly.
