Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Enhancement with Fat Transfer?
Since the beginning of plastic surgery, breast enhancement has always been one of the most in-demand cosmetic surgery procedures. However, as the years have gone on and breakthroughs in medical technology have been made, breast enhancement options for women have evolved past just traditional breast augmentation with breast implants. Breast enhancement with fat transfer can provide an excellent alternative to breast implant or a helpful resource for breast reconstruction following a lumpectomy or mastectomy, or even help put the finishing touches on a traditional augmentation procedure, though this approach may not be right for everyone.
I often explain to patients during breast enhancement consultation appointments that fat transfer injections are not generally a substitute for breast implants. Since only organic materials are used during the procedure, the results achieved with fat transfer for the breasts are considerably more modest when compared to traditional breast augmentation with implants. In my experience, patients who seek a slight increase in volume to the breasts, while maintaining the most natural look and feel may be excellent candidates for this procedure. For women who are concerned about visible scarring after surgery, recovery after fat transfer for the breasts is much shorter than traditional breast augmentation, and since no incision is made during the procedure, there will be no post-surgical scarring around the breast area.
