What is the Difference Between Breast Reduction in Women and Men?
Plastic surgery can be extremely versatile. For example, there are certain cosmetic procedures that can provide very different benefits depending on the specific needs of my patient. I perform breast reduction procedures for both male and female patients who wish to remove unwanted, excess tissue from their chest area. So while the end goals of the surgeries may be the same, the method used to perform these surgeries and the reasons that a patient may seek breast reduction surgery can differ significantly for men and women. Allow me to explain the differences between breast reduction for men and women.
It’s normal for some women with larger natural breasts to feel uncomfortable and out of proportion. Undergoing breast reduction can be an excellent way to help women achieve a more proportional silhouette. However, a breast reduction offers women far more than just aesthetic benefits. Larger breasts are heavier and can often lead to back and neck pain, posture issues, and other difficulties. Breast reduction can significantly help women by alleviating these concerns.
Conversely, male breast reduction is a purely cosmetic surgery procedure that does not offer any medical benefits. However, the emotional and psychological benefits can be incredibly powerful. During the procedure, I surgically remove excess glandular breast tissue and fat to flatten the chest and provide a more masculine physique. In my many years of performing this procedure, the boost in self-confidence that male breast reduction provides patients never ceases to amaze me.
In the video below, I discuss the differences between breast reduction procedures for male and female patients:
