Can Gynecomastia Be Treated Without Plastic Surgery?
Male breast enlargement can affect men and boys of all ages. It is particularly common during adolescence as the body experiences changes associated with puberty and physical maturation. In many cases, the problem can disappear as a man enters his twenties. However, it can persist into adulthood. Gynecomastia is a common condition in which male breast enlargement is caused by an excess of glandular breast tissue.
I often speak to prospective patients who seek to treat their gynecomastia and are curious if there are any available non-surgical solutions. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Although some people are able to slightly reduce some degree of volume from their chest area by losing weight, true gynecomastia is caused by excess tissue and not fat. That means dieting, exercising, liposuction, and non-surgical fat removal treatments like CoolSculpting® may not be able to provide significant relief. Additionally, there are no known medications or supplements that have been proven to help treat gynecomastia. I would warn patients against taking any of these alleged solutions, as they can have unintended effects on their health.
Men who are really determined to achieve a meaningful change to their chest contour would benefit from inquiring about male breast reduction surgery. In the following video, I discuss male breast reduction and how it is able to help men relieve their gynecomastia symptoms once and for all:
I understand the urge to look for a non-surgical alternative to treat your condition. However, sometimes, like in the case of gynecomastia, this simply is not an option. Thankfully, when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, male breast reduction surgery is a rather straightforward procedure that can provide legitimately life-changing results.
